Drawing and painting lessons for children 5-11 years old
Usually children like drawing and make their first pictures being under 1year old. While helping children to paint you should understand different stages of their development. For example, you should keep in mind that children up to 6 years old move their pencils and brushes by entire hand, while older children as well as adults do it by fingers. As a result little children find drawing details very difficult and boring.
Also you should remember that children do only those things which they find interesting. So you have to make every effort to turn teaching process into fun, otherwise you will destroy their motivation to draw.
While developing drawing skills I usually use different kinds of techniqes including but not limited by:
1. Drawing and painting in pencils, watercolors and acrylics on paper and canvas;
2. Making (cutting) objects (animals, butterflies, insects, reptiles, pets etc.) from carton and painting them;
3. Painting in acrylic on stones;
4. Painting and decorating small toys made of wood;
5. Making pictures and objects of dough and then painting them;
6. Painting on natural materials (pinecones, chestnuts, acorns etc);
7. Making collages from paper, natural materials etc.
You may join anytime and take as many lessons as you like, but I recommend to start from one 1-hour long lesson per week.
Lessons can be held at my well-equipped home-based studio in New Westminster or at your home location.
